So I’m going to buy a motorcycle soon and I’m really stuck between these two deals. Honda CBR1000RR 2008 vs Yamaha R6 2007. Both have roughly similar cost but I’m really confused about which to choose. The R6 has a better sound, but the CBR is more comfortable. The R6 has killer looks while the CBR has a lower seat (I’m 5’5) and is lighter. I’m really confused between these two. Can anyone suggest which one I should get considering the overall rating?

Don’t get the 2008 CBR model. It burns up to 1 liter of oil every 600 miles. Honda fixed this problem with the 2009 model (different piston sealing). The R6 is a great bike. Not really suitable for daily riding though. You have to rev really high for decent power. You said the CBR is lighter than the R6 – I’m pretty sure that’s not the case. If it’s comfort you want, you could probably do better than two aggressive sports bikes. VFR800s sound pretty good? Sorry, I know that’s not helping you choose between these two, but I do note that they are both designed to be agile and quick, not comfortable. Both sound good though. I’ve heard of people buying liter bikes for daily commuters because they have so much power that you can happily mosey around without needing to hit high revs. I’ve had a go on an older CBR1000RR and it was a right laugh and just a nice fun bike, but pretty usable. I wasn’t keen on the sports bike position for long rides though. Between these two, the Honda gets my vote.

Honda CBR1000RR 2008:

  • More comfortable seating position.
  • Lower seat height, suitable for your height (5’5″).
  • Less weight compared to the Yamaha R6.
  • Potential oil burning issue in the 2008 model (1 liter oil burned every 600 miles).
  • Generally regarded as a fun and usable bike, but may not be the most comfortable for long rides.

Yamaha R6 2007:

  • Better sound according to your preference.
  • Eye-catching design.
  • May require high revs for decent power.
  • Aggressive sports bike design, potentially less comfortable for daily riding or long rides.
